During the lockdown portion of the pandemic last year, I decided I needed to immerse myself in a project. I found some notes I had taken several years ago during a workshop on how to self-publish an e-book and just like that, I wrote a book. Using previously published content from my blog, I added new content, and had it professionally edited so it all flowed together seamlessly. I could now add another title to my fake Carrie Bradshaw resume.
I did all of this and had the book ready to go at the beginning of 2021. Then, I did what I do best – procrastinated. At some point, it was announced Sex and the City was getting a reboot titled, And Just Like That…, and Sarah Jessica Parker was going to add another title to her real Carrie Bradshaw resume.
I asked myself, could fake Carrie Bradshaw and real Carrie Bradshaw exist within the same universe?
I sure hoped so, but I’m deadline driven, and I was only going to be held accountable to myself. Procrastination, no deadline, and no accountability? These are not good odds. I also had to learn how to self-publish a book. At this rate, I’d be lucky if it saw the light of day.
Then, over the summer, unfortunately, the universe had other plans for me. I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My fake Carrie Bradshaw life was starting to look more like season 6 Samantha Jones, only worse. The book would have to wait.
In the meantime, I would soak up all the social media posts about filming the new series while in my chemotherapy fog. It would be one of the few things that brought me enjoyment.
Would Mr. Big be in the series? Yes, he would. Would Samantha be in the series? No, she would not. Would Carrie still have a killer wardrobe with shoes to match? What do you think?
Which brings us to today. I did get my fake Carrie Bradshaw shit together and I figured out how to self-publish an e-book! I titled it, what else, Buy the Shoes: Essay on Relationships, Motherhood and the Stories in Between. It’s available for pre-sale now, to be downloaded to your Kindle or other electronic device on December 7.
Just in time for And Just Like That…, which will debut on HBO Max December 9, airing weekly on Thursdays until February 3, 2022.
And just in time for the end of chemotherapy which will be finished on December 10. I know I’m ready for a new chapter to begin.
xoxo
