The Peanuts Movie opens today and I. Am. So. Excited! I have been a huge fan of the Peanuts gang since I was a little girl. Not sure what the movie’s about, here’s the synopsis from the website {which is awesome by the way! You can “Peanutize” yourself, get character descriptions, and watch videos.}
“Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved “Peanuts” gang make their big-screen debut, like they’ve never been seen before, in state of the art 3D animation. Charlie Brown, the world’s most beloved underdog, embarks upon an epic and heroic quest, while his best pal, the lovable beagle Snoopy, takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis, the Red Baron. From the imagination of Charles M. Schulz and the creators of the ICE AGE films, THE PEANUTS MOVIE will prove that every underdog has his day.”
When I was a kid, my friend Kathy and I were so obsessed with Snoopy, we used to submit Snoopy drawings to a local kids show’s weekly art contest. She won {more than once,} and just like Charlie Brown, I felt like I was never going to win. And just like Charles kicking that darn football, I hung in there and submitted my drawing every week. Finally, my picture of Snoopy won! It was only a box of markers, but I was so happy to win. And good grief did it feel like it took a long time!
While I love Snoopy, Woodstock and the rest of the gang, two of my favorite characters are Peppermint Patty and her sidekick Marcie. I love Marcie’s crush on Charlie Brown, or Charles as she calls him, and her loyalty to her BFF Peppermint Patty, or “sir” as she calls her. I also love that Marcie is a fellow glasses wearer and I think she’s a-dorkable, just like the movie poster says.
Because I think Marcie and her glasses are a-dorkable, I thought it would be fun to make some DIY glasses so we can all channel our inner Marcie.
All you need for this easy craft are 3 pipe cleaners which you can purchase at any craft or dollar store. Be as creative as you want with the colors, or be like Marcie, and keep them basic black.
- Cut 2 pipe cleaners in half to give you 4 equal pieces.
- Cut 1 pipe cleaner to 2 ½ inches.
- Using 2 of your large 4 pieces, make 2 circles out of the pipe cleaners, twisting the ends together to secure.
- Using the final 2 longer pieces, make the arms of your glasses by bending the ends then twisting one end to one of your circles and repeating with the other circle.
- Use the remaining smaller piece to make the bridge of your glasses by twisting onto one circle and then twisting onto the other circle.
Your kids will love this craft and they’ll have fun wearing their new “glasses!”

Too cute! I know the kids would get a kick out of making a pair of these…and then wearing them to the theater. And hey – a box of markets AND bragging rights? Not too shabby.
