The first time I heard about a Moscow Mule was from my good friend Oprah. Oprah and Gayle drank Moscow Mules while they were camping in Yosemite National Park. The first time I drank a Moscow Mule was at the beginning of the year while working in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles is the perfect place to drink a Moscow Mule, since it was supposedly invented there in the 1940’s {it’s up for debate where it was truly invented.} After work, my friend Alex and I headed to The Library Bar at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. I saw the Moscow Mule on the menu and knew I had to try one. It was beyond delicious!

The drink is served in an adorable copper mug, perfect for real camping, or just camping at a bar. It’s made with vodka, ginger beer, lime juice and a sprig of fresh mint for the garnish.
I’ve been meaning to re-create the Moscow Mule at home, so when my friend Sara came to visit last month we did just that. I learned that ginger beer isn’t actually beer {think root beer,} and it’s near impossible to recreate the deliciousness of the Library Bar Moscow Mule.
But, you can still make a yummy and unique drink!
As a side note, the Oprah recipe calls for sugar syrup. Sara and I skipped this step and our drink was still really good. I believe the Roosevelt uses fresh ginger in their Moscow Mule which gives it a nice kick. Also, a glass works just as well as a copper mug, but they sure are cute if you have one, but the end result is still the same.
I hope you try something new today! You just might like it!

Angela, these are my favorite things to drink! If you can get Brundenburg ginger beer, some bitters and vodka, you are set…to make it really fancy, all you need is the copper mug.
