Life can get pretty busy when you’re a mom juggling all of your responsibilities. Toilets need cleaned, your family needs to eat, kids need help with homework, you have a job, and important relationships such as family and friends all need attention. It’s hard to keep all the balls in the air and find the time to take care of yourself and others.
When life feels busy and overwhelming, here are some things to remember:
- While the toilet may need cleaned, it can wait. Toilets are great and all, but they can’t offer the kind of support a good friend can {I mean, unless you were out with your good friend the night before and you had one too many, then the toilet may be all the support you need.} Instead of cleaning the toilet, get your friends together for lunch or happy hour. You need friends. Trust me, you do.
- It’s true; we need to eat in order to stay alive. But, I bet one night a week your husband can handle it. Maybe you can throw together a slow cooker meal so all he has to do is serve it while you’re at happy hour. Or, maybe he can take the kids out for a Dad/Kids date night. While they’re gone, you can sit back and relax in a bubble bath, give yourself a facial or paint your nails.
- Yes, the kids need help with their homework. If it needs to be done immediately {my daughter has homework due once a week, so we can push it off on busier nights,} consider hiring your baby sitter to come over for an hour or two one night a week just to help with homework. This will take the stress off of you so you can do something you enjoy for that hour or so.
- Can’t get away? Host a happy hour at your house. Ask friends to bring over an appetizer and their favorite bottle of wine. Believe me, your house and your toilets will get cleaned faster on this day than they ever would have had you decided not to host one.
- Pick a favorite TV show and watch it weekly with your friends for a Girls Night In. “The Bachelor” or any of the “Real Housewives” are great options. Rotate houses so one person isn’t under pressure to host all the time and get together each week for some girlfriend time, some laughs and a lot of chit chat. Again, friends can bring an appetizer and bottle of wine and you’ve got yourself a fun, emotionally fulfilling night.
Life is busy, we get it. But, you have to make time for the people you care about {this includes YOU} or one day they may be gone. Keep in mind, according to Everyday Health, maintaining friendships is as important to your health and well-being as eating healthy and exercise. Taking care of you will give you the energy and the positive feelings you’ll need to take care of your friendships, which make you happy, giving you the energy and the positive feelings you’ll need to take care of your family which will give you positive feelings and a sense of purpose. Do you see where I’m going?
