Throughout my career, I have been lucky enough to work in just about every industry I set my heart on. I have worked in the beauty industry in Beverly Hills, publishing in New York City, and the film industry in Los Angeles. I have worked the Oscars red carpet for several years and this year I was lucky enough to work the Screen Actors Guild {SAG} Awards at the Shrine Auditorium on January 30th.
I worked with the media in the weeks leading up to the awards and for the red carpet I was at the arrivals area. The red carpet can get a little crazy at times and there were two people I for sure wanted to see that night – Jon Hamm and Leonardo DiCaprio. I was lucky enough to see Leo, but I completely missed Hamm.
All night long, I missed seeing him. He was at arrivals; I was on the main carpet. He was on stage while I was backstage. We were both in the showroom at the same time, however we were on opposite sides. And so the story goes. But, The World’s Best Boss, aka Michael Scott, aka Steve Carrell smiled at me on the red carpet. I guess that makes up for the elusive Hamm.

I did get to see a lot of the cast of ‘Games of Thrones,’ but unfortunately, I’m one of the few who don’t watch it. I saw my two idols Tina Fey and Kristen Wiig, and earlier in the week I got to meet and shake the hand of Carol Burnett.
One of my fondest childhood memories was watching ‘The Carol Burnett Show’ on weekday mornings on CBS before ‘The Price is Right.’ We went to year round school, so our breaks were a little different than traditional school and we watched a lot of TV. Mrs. Wiggins was my favorite. She can chew gum likes nobody’s business. And Carol was delightful to meet.

When the red carpet was over, I worked in the Showroom. Once the show was over, it was time to celebrate good times with a trip to the People Magazine/Entertainment Industry Foundation {EIF} Gala where I drank beer and danced to an amazing DJ. Daisy, Anna and Mrs. Patmore from ‘Downton Abbey’ were also getting their groove on and we all ate delicious food from Wolfgang Puck. The Butterscotch pudding was to die for.
Here are my red carpet takeaways:
- Saoirse Ronan is stunningly beautiful and so was her dress.
- Viola Davis took my breath away when he entered the red carpet. She was beautiful.
- Jacob Tremblay is adorable.
- Julianne Moore, who is usually on my best-dressed list, was not wearing one of my favorite looks of the night.
- Leonardo DiCaprio is that good looking, but doesn’t really do it for me. I’m still holding out hope I’ll run into Don Draper one of these days.
- Eva Longoria had on too much bronzer. She’s beautiful and doesn’t need it.
- Kiernan Shipka is as adorable as you think she would be.
- Congrats to all the well deserved winners!
