Just when I finally understood what BB Cream was and how it worked, cosmetic companies have now launch CC Cream. Great. I’m on the hunt for the perfect BB Cream (my hunt is going at a snail’s pace, as I just realized it was more than a year ago I blogged about my Garnier BB Cream), and now I must decide if I should abandon said hunt and start a new one – searching for the perfect CC Cream? Or is Stila BB Cream the answer?
I did like the Garnier BB Cream, and the company has made some improvements, now offering an anti-aging and oily skin version of the cream. The oily skin version even has three color options as opposed to the two choices in the other versions. But, I’m hard to please, so I still wanted to try some more. I opted to hit Sephora this time, choosing Stila’s Stay All Day® 10-In-One HD Illuminating Beauty Balm With Broad Spectrum SPF 30.
The Stila is not as thick as the Garnier, and it seems to cover better. I have found that the best vehicle for application is my fingers. Both the sponge and the foundation brush absorbed too much of the product, and coverage was not as good as with my fingers. While some product’s “illumination” leave your face shimmering like a pair of mother of pearl earrings, the shimmer in this product is close to perfect. Not too shiny, and very subtle.
It’s not too greasy either, but I do still like to use a dusting of powder with my foundation, er BB Cream. And I do still have to use my concealer as it’s not a miracle product. But I will say, over time, I noticed a slight change in my skin with the Garnier BB Cream. I can’t say what it was exactly, maybe my skin was more moisturized and therefore felt better, I’m not sure. But I have not noticed the same difference with the Stila BB Cream.
I liked both BB Creams, and the Garnier price tag of $11 beats the $38 Stila. But, I think the Stila product goes on a little smoother, the color seems to be not as orange, and I didn’t feel as shiny. I will say that we just spent a week in Florida, and the Stila Stay All Day BB Cream was fighting a losing battle in the Florida humidity. If it’s in your budget, and you don’t live in Florida, I would go for the Stila. If you do live in Florida, how do you keep your makeup on your face and not running away by mid-morning?
The reality is, in some cases you get what you pay for, but a lower priced item can perform nearly as well as a higher priced item. You can look just as well with BB Cream purchased at the drug store as you can with BB Cream purchased at Sephora. I guess it just depends how much you can, or want to spend.
Now I need to go educate myself on CC Cream…
