Watching Christmas movies is one of my favorite traditions of the holidays! My personal favorite is The Family Stone. It wasn’t one I could watch with my family, so every year, I would put on the fire, grab a beer, wrapping paper, tape and ribbon and I would pop in the DVD. Then, I would wrap gifts and enjoy one of my favorite movies.
It honestly, was the perfect escape during a busy time of year! Since my divorce, we’ve moved and no longer have the fireplace. My daughter has gotten older and we no longer have the busy schedule. Who am I kidding? It’s 2020 so this year, no one will have the busy schedule.
My new tradition is to watch my movie, in my pj’s with a drink in hand. I no longer have to wrap presents while watching said movie, because without the busy schedule, there’s no need.
You may have young kids and you’re looking for the perfect holiday escape. Or you may have older kids who can share in the laughs while watching these adult holiday classics with mom. Either way, I hope you enjoy these films as much as I do!
Here is a list of 10 great Christmas movies just for YOU mom!
- A Bad Moms Christmas– I loved Bad Moms and this one is just as funny! It’s full of cuss words, drinking, and humor that will land any mom on the naughty list. Stars Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn.
- Die Hard– Just kidding! This isn’t a Christmas movie…
- The Family Man– I love this movie! It’s a “modern” {it was released in 2000, which was 20 years ago. If that doesn’t make you want to cry…} take on A Christmas Carol, which is to say it’s a look at how the choices we make shape the lives we lead. Starring Nicolas Cage and Téa Leoni.
- The Family Stone– As already mentioned, this is one of my all-time favorite movies in general. I’ll just be over here waiting for my very own Everett Stone to walk into my life… It’s also a tear-jerker. You’ve been warned. Starring Diane Keaton, Dermot Mulroney and Sarah Jessica Parker.
- Holidate– This is a new release for 2020 and can be found streaming on Netflix. When the first line of a holiday movie is “Fucking holidays,” I’m totally in. It was cute, funny, raunchy, and stupid fun. Don’t expect it to be anything else, and you might enjoy it, too. Stars Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey.
- The Holiday– Nancy Myers does the holidays! It’s that classic, “let’s switch homes and live each other’s lives for the holiday’s” plot. And of course, it’s magical and the houses are amazing. Because Nancy Myers… This one stars Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz.
- Holiday in the Wild– Netflix meets Lifetime. You can totally watch it with your kids if you choose. It has elephants, Africa and a love story. What more can you wish for this holiday season? Rob Lowe you say. Yes, it has him, too! Save the elephants! No, really, we need to save them.
- Love Actually– A bunch of little stories weaved in and out of each other with London as a backdrop? Say no more. It’s happy, sad, hopeful and all kinds of amazing. Stars Hugh Grant and Keira Knightly.
- Office Christmas Party– Definitely do not watch this one with your kids. It’s probably worse than Holidate and A Bad Moms Christmas combined. It’s the office Christmas party of your dreams. Or if you’re reserved like me, your nightmares. It’s sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll on crack. Starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman.
- Planes, Trains and Automobiles–It’s a classic John Hughes holiday movie from the 80’s. What more do I need to say? It stars Steve Martin and John Candy.
I hope you can find some time to kick back and enjoy one of these holiday movies alone or with the family. I say alone, but some moms just love their families. I’m kidding…
I also have a list of holiday movies you can enjoy with your families without having to worry about F bombs dropping, or wardrobe malfunctions that are intentional. You can read that one here.
Which one is your favorite?
Let’s wrap this year up!
xoxo
